Position Description:

Bay Microsystems is seeking a highly talented Senior Systems Engineer to join our growing Sales team and play a crucial role in the development of our innovative networking systems business. 

The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for leading the technical support group in the pre-sales and post-sales initiatives for Bay’s Network System’s product line within the DoD/Intell and Commercial markets.

A successful candidate will have a combination of technical aptitude, business acumen, strong communication skills, and current and relevant knowledge of the networking technologies solutions, products and services business.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership for the overall Bay systems sales engagements
  • Participate in and deliver technical presentations for customers, partners and prospects.
  • Work closely with prospective customers and partners to understand their environment and solution requirements.  Architect and propose solutions based on Bay Microsystems products to ensure that the requirements are met.
  • Serve as the key technical contact with assigned customers and partners during the sales process.
  • Set-up and support equipment for customer demonstrations and evaluations when necessary.
  • P rovide intensive pre- and post-sales technical consulting to prospective customers and channels
  • Work closely with the sales team throughout the sales process and contribute to meeting business objectives.
  • Investigate new solution areas for product extensions.
  • Remain current in networking technology
  • Take a leadership role as we build our organization and system engineering process.
  • Fill multiple roles in a startup environment.

Position Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience

  • BS in relevant field (CS, EE, MIS)
  • CCIE certification or similar is highly desirable
  • 5 to 10+ years of systems experience in a sales environment to include the following:
    • Communications/Networking background with a strong understanding of Ethernet, IP, MPLS and carrier networking as well as ATM and SONET
    • Experience with High Availability and Disaster Recovery Architectures is a plus
    • Proven technical sales support track record within the Networking Industry
    • Project and team leadership experience
    • Ability to quickly understand and configure enterprise network topologies and constraints
    • Background and experience in one of the following is not required – but a plus.  Enterprise storage networking, server and I/O virtualization (i.e. VMWare or Xen), or Infiniband networking
    • Ability to program scripts and provide environment automation (Perl, Python, TCL for example)
    • Experience with the following technologies preferred: SNMP, IOS
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Responsive in communications and very organized
  • Experience in support and customer service
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively across departmental lines with sales, marketing, and engineering

Working Environment:

Extensive travel - up to 35-50% domestically and international travel required.
