Dune Networks and Bay Microsystems to Support SPAUI™ Interface for Next Generation Ethernet
SPAUI, a XAUI backward compatible interface, combines best of XAUI and SPI4.2 into single interface targeting dense 10GE line cards featuring multiple 10Gbps ports and higher speed Ethernet solutions
Sunnyvale, Calif. – October, 9, 2007 – Dune Networks, a leading provider of networking devices for Metro Ethernet, Enterprise and Data Center platforms and Bay Microsystems, the world’s fastest growing network processor company, announced today their commitment to support the SPAUI interface in their respective next-generation devices as well as its enhancement for higher rate (40Gbps, 100Gbps) applications. Both companies’ mutual support of the SPAUI interface underscores a continuous commitment to provide their customers with seamless, interoperable solutions. Equipment vendors can utilize these solutions for building carrier switches and routers with high-density 10GE line cards, featuring multiple 10Gbps ports, extending to 40Gbps and 100Gbps port rates.
Ofer Iny, CTO of Dune Networks explained, “Since the SPAUI interface leverages the standard XAUI MAC and PCS physical interface it is an ideal system interface for devices supporting dense 10GE ports”.
“Bay and Dune are jointly committed to offer the highest bandwidth and services in the market” said Brian Alleyne, Bay’s Sr. Director of Product Marketing, “We believe that this joint solution will enable system vendors to start implementing high end systems with numerous 10GE ports on the same line card, with a clear roadmap to 40GE and 100GE ports.”
About SPAUI
SPAUI, an interface based on the XAUI industry standard, incorporates several extensions focused to provide 10Gbps applications with speedup (for packet headers, full rate 12GE), channelization, packet interleaving, and refined flow control. SPAUI is implementation-friendly, backward compatible to the standard XAUI, and ideal for dense 10GE and higher speed Ethernet solutions. The SPAUI memorandum is available upon demand from Dune Networks at no cost..
