Bay's Newport™ integrates critical functions required to build next generation OTN/SONET/SDH transport systems onto a single chip. Newport is a 40G Transport Processor CMOS IC characterized by high integration and low power. The device is a complete transport processor with data traffic mapped into next generation OTN/SONET/SDH transport technologies. Newport has two transport interfaces configurable as a single 40G or quad 10G in OTN/SONET/SDH mode. The data interfaces are configurable as 4x 10G Ethernet interfaces and a SPI packet interface.
In OTN mode, the transport interface/s provides OTU/ODU termination with standard and enhanced FEC (GFEC/EFEC), and ODU adaptation of various clients including 10GE, SONET/SDH/CBR, and PPP. In addition, asynchronous multiplexing of external ODU2/OTU2 signals into OTU3 is supported. In SONET/SDH mode, transport interface/s provides STE and LTE functions with a full 120 Gbps STS-1/VC-3 cross connect across all interfaces. For SONET/SDH PTE applications, 40G worth of STS-3c/VC-4 granular CCAT mapping is supported with GFP/PPP encapsulation. The client SPI-5 interface allows connection with an NPU or other layer 2 devices. Four XAUI interfaces support direct connection to an external PHY (PCS layer) device to support 10GE interfaces.
